Mama Fungi
Sometimes a band comes along that feels less like a project and more like an ecosystem. Mama Fungi is exactly that: ten musicians from Brussels bringing together their love of groove, jazz and global rhythms in a sound that is constantly in motion.
You can hear echoes of Ezra Collective in their collective energy, the warm soul tones of Gott Street Park, and a rhythmic freedom reminiscent of artists like Typhoon. But Mama Fungi never sounds like a copy. Their music feels like a journey: a groove suddenly opening into reggae, a quiet passage unexpectedly shifting into a danceable rhythm, a collective breathing and moving as one.
What sets Mama Fungi apart is their playful approach to genre. Jazz, reggae, dub, soul and hip-hop appear as colours on the same palette. The result is a vibrant, groove-driven sound that feels both familiar and surprising, and that truly comes into its own live.
