Kirsten Vanlangenaeker explores how images, torn from their original context, take on new meaning when placed on different carriers and techniques. With screen printing as her main medium, she brings her distinct sense of color and fascination with reflection into play, turning the familiar into something strange or humorous. Her inspiration comes from the fringes of visual culture: vintage porn, B-movie posters, erotic catalogues, street advertising… What was once meant to seduce or sell is given a second life — sometimes ironic, sometimes sharp, always laced with humor. Each image becomes, at the same time, a mirror for (self)reflection.
