Doing The Most: DJ BasicBitch & Zacquel Phipps
DJ BasicBitch (she/her) is one of the various personas of the transdisciplinary artist Naomi Lilith Quashie. As her approach to creation is heavily influenced by her spiritual heritage, her work strives to blurr the lines between modern western categorization of the arts. Holding nightlife as a beacon of hope for artistic freedom, she created Doing the Most, a concepts that reclaims ℕ𝕚𝕘𝕙𝕥𝕝𝕚𝕗𝕖 𝕒𝕤 𝕒 𝕔𝕦𝕣𝕒𝕥𝕚𝕠𝕟𝕒𝕝 𝕒𝕟𝕕 𝕒𝕣𝕥𝕚𝕤𝕥𝕚𝕔 𝕡𝕝𝕒𝕥𝕗𝕠𝕣𝕞 while encouraging self-expression and creativity of QBIPOC artists on a transdisciplinary level. The foundation of her sets is movement. Influenced by a multicultural background and her dance practise, her sound is a mix of tech-house, afrotech, baroque music, pop, hardtechno and whatever happens to make a b*tch dance.
Zacquel Phipps (they/them) is a multi-disciplinary artist based in Amsterdam working at the intersections of dance, music, performance, natural sciences and writing. In his work themes such as decolonial practices, queerness, the body as a political instrument, anthropomorphism and the translation of scientific theory into artistic practices.
